Twenty-five complete Task 2 essays, five for each of the five question types you'll actually meet in the exam: discuss-both-views, advantages/disadvantages, causes/solutions, agree/disagree, and positive-or-negative development. Read a batch, then try the same prompt type cold before checking how the model handles it.
Note on naming: "causes/solutions" essays are also called two-part or direct-question essays elsewhere (the prompt asks two direct questions — usually "why is this happening?" and "what can be done about it?" — instead of stating an opinion to agree or disagree with). Same structure, same five essays below, different name.
Essay 1: Parents versus Schools Teaching Children Introduction. Some people believe that children should be taught by their parents about how to function as useful members of society. Others believe that sending children to educational institutions is the best way for them to study this. Although the latter opinion can be beneficial in some cases, I believe that family upbringing plays a more important role in educating children to be good parts of the community. This helps them contribute to society in the future. For example, Trung Vuong school and Vinschool are well known for having nurtured successful alumni. These include Professor Ngo Bao and Professor Nguyen Hung, who have devoted their talents to the development of the country. However, these people only represent a small fraction of the total number of students. Therefore, sending children to schools cannot be the best method of educating them to be good members of society. Paragraph 2: Parents. I believe that parents play a more important role in teaching children how to be good citizens. In Vietnam, the average class size is 20 students. This makes it difficult for educators to provide proper schooling for each student. One-to-one lessons at home, on the other hand, allow children to progress faster. Furthermore, parents form stronger bonds with their offspring. Thus, it is easier for them to shape children's personalities at an early age. For example, by telling stories such as Robin Hood or Cinderella before bedtime, parents can instil a sense of compassion and integrity. These children are likely to become good members of society when they grow up. Conclusion. In conclusion, although sending children to schools can be seen as a way of teaching them to be good citizens, I believe that domestic upbringing has a bigger impact on determining who they are in the future.

Although studying in separate schools will help boys and girls to focus more on their studies, I believe learning from co-educational institutions will help them to become more social in society. Paragraph 1: Separate Schools. On the one hand, when boys and girls attend separate schools, they will spend more time focusing on their studies. This is because there will not be any opposite gender to be attracted to. The schooling hours will be fully utilised to learn something rather than being diverted from studies. For example, in Nepal, students from Saint Mary's Girls School showed better academic performance than girls from co-educational institutions. However, I believe that children attending mixed schools will learn to be more social in the future. Paragraph 2: Mixed Schools. On the other hand, co-education is more beneficial for children because they will learn social skills during their school years. Children of both genders will study together and learn how to deal politely with the opposite sex. This is an important skill which is highly accepted by society. For example, boys who finished their studies at co-educational schools showed more courtesy towards ladies. They offered help when required. For this reason, it is better for children to attend mixed schools as it helps them to learn essential social skills. Conclusion. In conclusion, although educating children in separate schools will help them focus on their studies, I believe that co-education is much better because they will learn essential social skills in school.
Essay 3: Teenage Years versus Adult Happiness Introduction. It is argued that adolescence years are the happiest years in one's life. Others believe that adulthood is the most joyful phase to live despite having bigger responsibilities. This essay argues that, although adolescents are free of responsibilities, adults enjoy their life more because they are free to make their own choices. Paragraph 1: Teenagers.
On the one hand, adolescents are thought to live the happiest moments of their life because they are not asked to be responsible. A teenager lives with his parents, who provide shelter, food, and education. In some cases, parents even try to meet their fantasies. For instance, in my country, teenagers are often spoiled and spend money carelessly. However, I believe that not being obliged to worry about responsibilities is not what happiness is all about. Consequently, adolescents do not live their happiest days. Paragraph 2: Adults. On the other hand, others see that adulthood is a happier phase because adults are free to make the choices that fit their aspirations. Having freedom of choice brings achievements and a sense of self-accomplishment. This is a primary source of joy. For example, many adults in my country are happy because of the career or commitment they chose on their own. They see themselves happier than when they were teenagers. Therefore, I believe adulthood is the most enjoyable time because one cannot be happy if they have to follow others' plans. Conclusion. In conclusion, despite having no responsibilities, adolescents do not live the happiest moments of their life. This essay argues that it is adulthood which is the most enjoyable because adults are free to make their own choices.
Essay 4: University Students: Study What They Like versus Useful Subjects Introduction. Some would argue that all university students should study the subject they like. Others think that they should only study something useful for their future, such as science and technology. Although learning about the latter subjects is crucial to secure a good job and salary, I believe that studying whatever they favor leads to students being successful in their fields. Paragraph 1: Useful Subjects. Studying science and technology during third-level education makes students able to find a job that pays high wages. Most modern workplaces require up-to-date technological information to improve quality and compete. In return, employees earn good remuneration. For instance, many IT graduates from the University of Toronto
were able to have high positions and good wages. However, I think that passion for what students study is more important than how much they earn in the future. Paragraph 2: Studying What They Like. It is very important for university students to study the subjects they like because this is the reason behind a successful career. Love for a subject allows them to go beyond their limits, be creative, and be eager to improve. Thus, they might be promoted. For instance, many well-known musicians decided to study music because they were passionate about it. This positive spirit helps them climb their professional ladder. Therefore, I support this school of thought because studying a favorite subject is more important. Conclusion. To conclude, despite the fact that a course in science and technology can provide a good future career and income, in my view, studying whatever they prefer is better because this leads to success in their field.
Essay 5: Sports Facilities versus Other Measures for Public Health Introduction. It is argued that sports facilities should be increased in number to improve citizens' health. Others claim that other initiatives are more essential. While I support the idea that installing more sports facilities would help people enhance their health, I am more convinced that other effective measures should be taken. Paragraph 1: Sports Facilities. On the one hand, people's general health could be improved greatly through exercising. It is proven that working out increases oxygen to the brain, helping people be more concentrative and optimistic. Lack of physical exercise can impact work performance and productivity. For example, Hanoi citizens are reported to be healthier because of exercise equipment in local parks. However, I believe that this measure only improves public health partially, not completely. Paragraph 2: Other Measures. On the other hand, there is a wide range of actions to prevent poor health conditions. Improving diet quality is one effective measure that should not be neglected. Good physical health depends on many elements, and nutritious meals strengthen the
immune system. In Vietnam, there was a program introducing milk into daily meals to fight child malnutrition. After two years, the number of underweight children was noticeably reduced. Therefore, I completely advocate other solutions to ensure public health. Conclusion. In conclusion, although launching more sports facilities would benefit citizens' health, I think this matter could be addressed better by other methods.
Type 2: Advantages and Disadvantages. Five essays. Essay 6: Multinational Companies in Developing Countries Introduction. Multinational companies are becoming increasingly common in developing countries. There are some benefits, such as economic progress and job creation. However, the shutdown of small local businesses and lower sales of local products are the drawbacks. Paragraph 1: Advantages. The main advantage of these companies is economic progress. If multinational organizations operate in less-developed nations, they bring wealth that boosts industries and trade. Moreover, more jobs become available for local people. More workers and managers are needed, which is a good opportunity for locals. For example, after opening a branch of Apple in Dubai, many local graduates were thrilled to be accepted to work there. Paragraph 2: Disadvantages. However, one main disadvantage is the drop in sales of local products. This is because international items have good reputations and quality. As a result, citizens stop buying local products. Another disadvantage is that some small local shops may close. Due to unfair competition with huge corporations, some go bankrupt. For example, many Syrian entrepreneurs were forced to close their fabric factories after harsh competition with international textile corporations. Conclusion.
In conclusion, although the advantages of multinational companies are economic progress and job market improvement, the downsides are lower local sales and the closure of small businesses.
Essay 7: Company Uniforms Introduction. Some companies require their employees to wear uniforms at all times. The main advantages are that uniforms serve as advertising and create a sense of belonging. The disadvantages are that uniforms may be inappropriate for work and may hinder performance. Paragraph 1: Advantages. Employees who wear uniforms can be a source of marketing for their products. When they step out of the company, people notice their logos and form a good impression. As a result, they might end up buying their products. Moreover, uniforms help develop a sense of belonging. When everyone wears the same clothes, it creates team spirit and improves production. For example, workers of the Lux company always wear the same uniform, so they become part of the marketing team. Paragraph 2: Disadvantages. On the other hand, employees who always wear uniforms might end up wearing inappropriate clothes for their work. They do not know the correct material or size for their job. Uniforms can also hinder performance. Poorly designed work clothes can cause difficulties and restrict work output. For instance, flight stewardesses wearing pencil skirts and high heels may look good, but they cause discomfort to themselves and passengers. Conclusion. In conclusion, the advantages of uniforms are that they help with marketing and create a sense of belonging. The disadvantages are the inappropriacy of the uniform and restricted performance.
Essay 8: Economic Growth Prioritisation Introduction.
In many nations, governments prioritise economic growth above all other concerns. The main benefits are lower unemployment and wealthier citizens. The main drawbacks are higher costs of living and insufficient support for the poorest. Paragraph 1: Advantages. Prioritising economic growth is beneficial because it reduces unemployment. Governments encourage the establishment of businesses, which require many workers. Furthermore, the country becomes more powerful economically and citizens can become affluent. When companies generate more profit, employees earn more money. For example, in Poland, thirty years after communism collapsed, average salaries have tripled. Paragraph 2: Disadvantages. However, as the economy thrives, the cost of living increases. Since workers are paid more, their services become more expensive, raising product prices. Moreover, a state that prioritises the economy often offers little support to those who need it. If the government believes the economy is most important, it is reluctant to help those who do not contribute to national prosperity. For example, when Donald Trump became president, funds for jobless migrants were cut. Conclusion. In conclusion, prioritising economic growth has pros and cons. More people have jobs and can become wealthy, but the cost of living rises and the most vulnerable are marginalized.
Essay 9: Childless Couples Introduction. An increasing number of married couples around the world are choosing to remain childless. The main benefits are that they can focus on their careers and have more time for themselves. The main drawbacks are that they may not fit into their peers' group and have no one to look after them in old age. Paragraph 1: Advantages. One primary advantage of remaining childless is that couples can focus on their work. They have less responsibility and fewer distractions than couples with children. Another advantage is that they have more spare time. Looking after a child is a full-
time job that takes most of parents' time. Child-free couples have lots of free time after work. For example, many couples stop going out late after having a child because they must stay home to care for them. Paragraph 2: Disadvantages. One disadvantage is that these couples may struggle to relate to their peers after most of them have children. Most parents prefer to spend time with other couples who also have children. Moreover, having no one to look after them in old age is another disadvantage. Children typically care for their aging parents because their parents did the same for them. For instance, many people in care homes see their own children only rarely, if at all. Conclusion. In conclusion, the benefits of staying child-free are career focus and more free time. The drawbacks are problems fitting into friend groups and having no one to care for them in old age.
Essay 10: Vegetarian Diet Introduction. Following a vegetarian diet is becoming very popular in some nations. Although without meat it is hard to get enough protein, I believe that the benefits of high fibre and low saturated fat outweigh any drawbacks. Paragraph 1: Disadvantage. The main disadvantage is that without meat, people may have a protein deficiency. Humans are naturally omnivorous rather than herbivorous. By avoiding animal products, protein levels decrease, affecting muscles, bones, and the immune system. In certain religious groups in India that follow a strict vegetarian diet, people may suffer from fatigue and bone fractures. However, I think a well-planned diet can provide all necessary nutrients, including protein. Paragraph 2: Advantage. The positive feature of this diet is that it contains high fibre and low saturated fat. This helps reduce heart problems. High amounts of fat from animal products can accumulate in blood vessels and cause clots. By controlling fat and consuming more fibre, the risk of heart disease decreases. That is why many doctors recommend this
healthy diet. Therefore, protecting people from heart disease with this regimen is very beneficial. Conclusion. To conclude, while it is difficult to get enough protein from a vegetarian diet, I believe the advantages of protecting people from heart disease far outweigh any disadvantages.
Type 3: Causes and Solutions (also called Two-Part / Direct-Question). Five essays. Essay 11: Athletes Using Banned Substances Introduction. In many professional sports, it is becoming common for athletes to use banned substances to improve performance. This essay will discuss how fierce competition and lax testing systems are the main causes. The most suitable solutions are imposing heavier punishments and upgrading testing facilities. Paragraph 1: Causes. The main cause is the fierce competition that exists in any sport. Many athletes feel they must take steroids to gain an advantage over strong opponents. Another reason is the lack of strictness in testing procedures. Many athletes who take banned substances can still escape punishment due to holes in testing systems. For example, several high-profile athletes have described in interviews how easy it was to cheat. Paragraph 2: Solutions. A viable solution is to heavily punish lawbreakers. If sports clubs raise fines for using banned substances, athletes will think twice before cheating. Another solution is to upgrade testing facilities. This will remove any gaps in the system and ensure accurate results. For instance, after the UFC invested in new testing equipment, many fighters were caught. Conclusion. Another issue is that election results may be undermined. Since only older people vote, the winner may not be the one the majority wants. For example, in my country, politicians with older supporters often win against candidates who appeal to the young. Paragraph 2: Solutions. One suitable solution is to run public awareness campaigns emphasising the importance of voting. Once young people realise the consequences of not voting, they will change their minds. Another way is to provide incentives. Many young people find voting a waste of time, so incentives make them more likely to vote. For instance, in my country, young people are given a small amount of money to motivate them. Conclusion. In conclusion, the problems are indifferent attitudes toward politics and ineffective elections. Some solutions are educating and incentivizing young people to vote.
Essay 13: People Feeling Less Safe Despite Lower Crime Rates Introduction. Although serious crimes are decreasing, some people feel more insecure than before. The main reason is the increase in cyberbullying and hate crimes. The solution would be to raise general awareness and enact new laws. Paragraph 1: Causes. The primary cause is that the nature of crime has changed. More people interact online, which is mostly unregulated. Therefore, people are easily subject to
harassment and bullying on social media. Moreover, people are subject to hate crimes, which result from media portraying certain groups negatively. For example, labelling criminals who profess the Islamic faith as terrorists has increased hate crimes against Muslims in America. Paragraph 2: Solutions. The solution is to educate the general public so they are more aware. This will allow them to act more responsibly. The government can also enact new laws to address current needs. This will make citizens feel more secure because they can have their problems resolved. For example, Bangladesh recently enacted the Digital Security Act to penalize online offences that were not previously defined as crimes. Conclusion. In conclusion, insecurity still prevails due to the changing nature of crime. However, this can be addressed by making people aware and creating new laws.
Essay 14: Competition with Young People for Jobs Introduction. Nowadays, more young people apply for the same jobs, increasing competition. The main problems are high competition and increased unemployment. The most viable solutions are creating special programs for young people and expanding the job market. Paragraph 1: Problems. Having hundreds of applicants for one position creates high competition between younger and older people. Only one person, usually young, is hired. This leads to unemployment, as not enough positions are available. In Ukraine, for example, many people in their forties or fifties file for unemployment insurance because companies prefer younger candidates. Paragraph 2: Solutions. One solution is for governments to create special positions for older people, such as trainers. This way, they will not lose their jobs and can pass their knowledge to younger generations. Another solution is for organizations to offer more internships. Creating such opportunities helps people have at least temporary jobs. For example, a
Ukrainian mobile company hires young people for a one-year program with potential full-time employment. Conclusion. In conclusion, more young people applying for the same job creates high competition and unemployment. To overcome this, governments should create more positions like trainers and offer more internships.
Essay 15: People Travelling More Introduction. Today, people are travelling more than ever before. The main reason is to achieve quality education abroad. The main benefits are entertainment from seeing exciting things and personality development. Paragraph 1: Reason. The main reason people travel more today is to achieve quality education abroad. Degrees from their own countries may not have much value. If they have degrees from abroad, they can compete for better jobs. Thus, their standard of living improves. For example, many engineers in India travel abroad for higher education. With a foreign degree, they can get a phenomenal job anywhere in the world. Paragraph 2: Benefits. One benefit is that travellers are entertained by seeing exciting things. At home, they have a hectic lifestyle and do routine work. While travelling, they see mesmerising lights and new things and get entertained. Moreover, travelling helps with personality development. For example, waiting long hours on an aeroplane develops patience. Travelling from Melbourne to Hyderabad requires 16 hours, which develops patience and overall personality. Conclusion. In conclusion, people travel more to achieve quality education abroad. The benefits are entertainment from seeing new things and personality development.
Type 4: Agree or Disagree. Five essays. Essay 16: Politicians' Private Lives Should Not Be Published
Introduction. It is thought that information about politicians' private lives should not be shared in newspapers. This essay strongly agrees with this suggestion. Publishing these details could harm their families, and obtaining this information might require breaking the law. Paragraph 1: Harm to Families. First and foremost, publishing private details could be harmful not only to politicians but also to their families. Revealing personal details could expose them to unwanted comments or accusations. This might cause great distress. In Poland, for example, the vice-prime minister committed suicide due to pressure from paparazzi invading his family's privacy. Paragraph 2: Breaking the Law. Furthermore, obtaining this type of information often means breaking the law. The right to privacy is a fundamental policy in society. Anyone who wants to access politicians' lives must obtain their consent. However, paparazzi invade properties to take photos without permission. Colleagues and relatives are also bribed to share confidential facts. For example, Princess Diana's accident was partly caused by paparazzi trying to take photos against her will. Conclusion. In conclusion, I strongly support that politicians' lives should not be in newspapers. Revealing personal facts could destroy family life, and obtaining these details often involves wrongdoing.
Essay 17: Arts Education as Important as Other Subjects Introduction. Some people believe that arts-related subjects are as important as other school subjects, especially for primary school children. I totally agree with this statement. This can help children discover their talents from an early age and increase their confidence. Paragraph 1: Discovering Talents. One reason I agree is that creative subjects allow students to discover their potential talents early. School age is the most convenient time to learn about interests.
Children are young enough to pursue hobbies. They may not have another chance later because they will be busy with difficult exams. For example, most famous singers were discovered by their music teachers at school. They claimed they could not have been successful if their teachers had not found their talents when they were young. Paragraph 2: Building Confidence. Moreover, music, art, and drama help students boost their confidence. Creative lessons teach students how to perform in front of others and give them chances to socialise. As a result, students realise their potential and act more confidently. For instance, many psychologists recommend drama lessons to students with social anxiety because it enhances confidence. Conclusion. In conclusion, I completely agree that music, art, and drama have the same value as other subjects in primary school. They allow children to discover hidden talents and increase self-confidence.
Essay 18: Companies Should Allocate Positions to Women Introduction. Although women make up more than 50 percent of the workforce in developed nations, many managerial positions are still held by men. Some believe a certain percentage of these positions should be allocated to women. This essay strongly disagrees with this statement. It would discourage qualified men from working hard and encourage companies to outsmart the system. Paragraph 1: Discouraging Qualified Men. Reserving high-level positions for women based on gender may prevent qualified males from contributing to the company's progress. Every employee wants equal opportunities for promotion regardless of gender. If men are deprived of this, they become unmotivated. Although television is widely used for leisure, in my opinion, it also helps in other ways like getting news and information from around the world. Paragraph 1: Entertainment. For decades, people have watched television for fun and relaxation. It is the most common entertainment product in every household. It offers a variety of channels and programs at the click of a button. This helps children and adults relax after work or study. Entertainment programs like The Kapil Sharma Show are popular because they spread laughter and joy. However, I think people have many other reasons to watch television, such as getting educated about major events. Paragraph 2: Education and Information. On the other side, many argue that beyond entertainment, there are educational programs and news that reach a large audience. Many shows play a vital role in educating citizens about current affairs. They help increase knowledge. For example, Prime Time with Ravish Kumar on NDTV discusses events in detail and educates people about how they affect their lives. Moreover, these shows have become more interesting due to advanced technology and presentation methods. Conclusion. In conclusion, while most people watch television for pleasure and relaxation, I believe it is not fair to label it only as entertainment. It remains a main source of news and information for the majority of people around the world.

On the other hand, parents are more influential in teaching children about being good in society. Parents are close to children, so children are more likely to believe them. As a result, children learn effectively how important it is to behave well. For instance, the vast majority of children gain good habits from their parents. Parents are eager to transmit good attitudes to their children. Therefore, I believe families are the most suitable teachers for children in this matter. Conclusion. In conclusion, despite the fact that schools have professional methods, I believe parents are more successful because they have better influence on children.
Type 5: Positive or Negative Development. Five essays. Essay 21: Being a Celebrity: More Benefits or Problems Introduction. Lives of celebrities, like famous movie stars or sports people, bring benefits as well as problems. Although earning huge amounts of money is an advantage, I believe the lack of privacy is a major problem that outweighs the benefit. Paragraph 1: Advantage: Money.
The main advantage for celebrities is that they receive huge remuneration. They are paid large amounts for their efforts or performances. Celebrities often decide their own fees, and those who pay them do not negotiate because they trust their star value. For example, Avengers star casts were paid high amounts even before reading the script. However, celebrities are also human beings, and money cannot replace the happiness or freedom they need. Paragraph 2: Disadvantage: Lack of Privacy. One downside is that it is not possible for celebrities to lead a private life. Because of their fame and popularity, they are constantly followed by the media and fans. Fans eagerly wait to know what is happening in their favorite stars' lives. As a result, celebrities lose freedom and cannot enjoy personal time with family or friends. For instance, Sachin Tendulkar claimed he could no longer walk the streets of Mumbai as he used to. Thus, celebrities cannot be carefree and always face the media. Conclusion. In conclusion, the problem of being a celebrity is that their privacy is interrupted. This overshadows the benefit of making large amounts of money.
Essay 22: Technology Changing Relationships Introduction. Because of developments in technology, the way we communicate has changed. As a result, people are making friends and even finding partners through the internet. I believe this is a negative trend because people try to take advantage of us after learning about our personal lives. Paragraph 1: Change in Relationships. Many have started making friends and dating online. Social media users follow people they do not know and interact by commenting or texting. Some teenagers and adults use dating websites to find a date. These platforms pair them randomly and they start conversations. For example, dating apps such as Tinder and Bumble are becoming popular among individuals. Paragraph 2: Negative Consequences. People often get threatened by their online friends. After earning their trust and learning about their personal lives, they start demanding money. If the person refuses,
they begin threatening to harm loved ones. For instance, thousands of social media users in Uzbekistan become victims of such crimes every year. Conclusion. In conclusion, due to technology, the way we interact has changed. People are dating and making friends online. I believe this is a negative development because people often get threatened by their online friends.
Essay 23: Second-Hand Clothing Popularity Introduction. In recent years, buying used clothes has become popular among youngsters. This is because many adolescents try to imitate famous people. I think it is a positive development because teenagers can save money for other useful things. Paragraph 1: Reason. Many adolescents buy used clothes because they want to look like famous people. They need different outfits for every occasion, which is expensive. They cannot afford buying new clothes from stores like Prada or Gucci. Therefore, many buy second-hand clothes.
